The COVID-19 outbreak that started in China was declared a global pandemic by the WHO in February
this year. Malawi recorded its first case on 4 th April and the cases have risen to sixteen with two deaths as of 17 th April 2020.
Since then the Malawi government, Non Governmental Organisation and other actors have strategised preventive and control measures in fighting against the pandemic.
Being a Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) related outbreak, WESNetwork has since engaged with its members and other players both at national and international level in the fight against COVID-19. Among other things, the network has and is lobbying for: introduction of moratorium on Water disconnection,supply of water in peri-urban areas for all the major cities of Malawi,supply of Water Services in Rural Areas and the Role of NGOs/CSOs in COVID-19 response. The secretariat has also called upon all players in the sector to share the various activities been done in order to promote a well strategised and coordinated response towards the pandemic in the country.
