Malawi joined the global community in commemorating World Toilet Day on 19th October 2021 under the theme “Valuing Toilets. According to WHO/UNICEF 2021, 3.6 billion people do not have access to safely managed sanitation service and the JMP-2021 Progress Report ranked Malawi’s percentage from 0-25. This includes access to safe managed latrines.
Out of the 287 Traditional Authorities in Malawi, 151 have been declared ODF the latest being T/A Chauma which is being championed by http://welthungerhilfe Malawi and was presided by the Principal Secretary for Health Mr. Beston Chitsamire.
This represents a 2.51% which also the JMP report indicates a 9% of hygiene in Malawi.
The national commemorations took place in Dedza district T/A Tambala with support from Water for People, United Purpose Welthungerhilfe UNICEF Malawi World Vision, CPAR, Habitat for Humanity, Self Help Africa and WaterAid Malawi
