3. Turbidity (the quality of being cloudy, opaque, or thick with suspended matter)
values registered from the 14 points with treated water ranged from 0.58- 5.2 NTU against the standard range of less than or equal to 1 NTU
Quality of water supplied to Mzuzu city
1. acidic levels: from 5.47-6.77 = within the acceptable limit of 5.0-8.0
2. Turbidity : 1.54-2.27 NTU. clarity objectionable quality when compared to the acceptable standard of less than 1.0 NTU
3. Microbiological analysis indicates that water during the time of the exercise was safe for human consumption
Quality of water for Blantyre
1. pH levels: alkaline with pH values ranging from 7.30-7.94=within the acceptable limits
2. Turbidity values registered from the 10 treated water points ranged from 0.39-1.45 NTU. The clarity of the water from 6 out of the 10 sampling sites (60%) within the distribution network system was found to be of good quality with turbidity values registered ranging from 0.39-0.74 NTU, whereas the other 4 sampling stations registered higher turbidity values against the acceptable range of less than or equal to 1.0 NTU
3. Fluoride: 0.892 mg/l Iron: 0.69 mg/l = not within the acceptable range of equal to or less than 0.7 mg/l and 0.01 mg/l, respectively
